Record Labels
Record Labels Are Not Happy With Politicians Suggestion

With his proposal to pay royalties directly to performers instead of through the label, a British politician sends record labels into a frenzy.

Although the proposed bill would allow artists to earn more from their music, many question its practical benefit. Furthermore, labels will have little motivation to break songs, creating a catch-22 situation in which the artist may have little streaming figures in the first place.

On the other hand, many musicians are enthusiastic about the idea, believing that they should be able to earn more money from their streams.

A spokesman for the BPI said: “This Bill would bind British music in red tape, reduce income for the most entrepreneurial artists, stifle investment and innovation by record labels, and disproportionately harm the independent sector.”
