Music World Pays Tribute to Vince Power: A Legacy of Innovation and Influence

The music world is reeling from the loss of a true pioneer as news of the passing of Vince Power, the founder of Mean Fiddler and a festival trailblazer, spreads. Power, who was 76 years old, left an indelible mark on the industry through his innovative spirit and unwavering dedication.

With a career spanning decades, Power played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of live music. His visionary approach not only transformed festivals such as Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, Phoenix, The Fleadh, Madstock, and Spain’s Benicassim but also left an enduring impact on the global music scene.

In a poignant statement issued by his family, Power was remembered not only as a business titan but also as a devoted father and friend. “It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of Vince Power,” the statement reads. “A visionary entrepreneur who enhanced and influenced the music industry significantly, whilst always being a dedicated, loving father and a loyal friend to so many.”

Power’s journey began in County Waterford, Ireland, where his passion for music first took root. In 1982, he opened the iconic Mean Fiddler venue in Harlesden, London, a pivotal moment that served as the launching pad for his Mean Fiddler Group empire. Under this banner, Power managed a slew of London’s most revered venues, including the Jazz Cafe, the Garage, Clapham Grand, and Kentish Town Forum.

However, perhaps Power’s most enduring legacy lies in his stewardship of the Reading Festival. In 1989, Mean Fiddler assumed control of the festival, breathing new life into its legacy and cementing its status as a cornerstone of the British music calendar. A decade later, Power expanded the festival’s reach by introducing the Leeds leg, further solidifying its position as a cultural institution.

As tributes pour in from across the globe, it’s evident that Power’s impact transcends mere business success. His visionary leadership, coupled with an unwavering commitment to fostering musical excellence, has left an indelible imprint on the fabric of the music industry. While he may no longer walk among us, Vince Power’s legacy will continue to resonate for generations to come.

In this time of profound loss, our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the countless individuals whose lives were touched by his remarkable spirit. Let us honor his memory by celebrating the enduring power of music and the transformative impact of a singular vision.
